We're building Cranny and that's where we are

A location-based app for places that don't show up on any map. We've been building it for a while now and we're almost ready to let people in.

It started with a simple problem

You want to go somewhere new. You ask around, you Google it, you scroll through the same ten lists. And you end up at the same place again.

We kept running into this. The bench with the view nobody talks about. The fire pit by the lake. The rooftop you found by accident. None of these places exist on any map. They live in people's heads — shared over text, forgotten in group chats, never written down.

So we started building something.

What is Cranny?

Cranny is a map of places that don't exist anywhere else. Real spots — viewpoints, benches, fire pits, hidden paths, quiet courtyards — pinned by people who actually found them.

You open the map, you see what's around you, you go. No star ratings, no sponsored results, no business listings. Just places worth going to, shared by people who were actually there.

And there's another layer: Traces. When you're physically at a spot, you can leave a photo or a short clip. Your name stays on that spot. Someone finding it weeks later will see you were there. It's like leaving a mark — tied to a real place and a real moment.

Where we are right now

We've been heads-down building for a while. The app is real — iOS and Android devices are only waiting to get our app! The map works. You can create spots, upload photos, follow people, discover what's nearby.

But we're not done yet. There are rough edges. Things we want to polish before we open it up to everyone.

Friends & Family

That's why we're starting with a small group first.

We call it the Friends & Family phase. A handful of people are already using Cranny — adding real spots, leaving traces, and helping us figure out what works and what doesn't. Everything they add stays. Their accounts are real. The map is already filling up.

If you want in early, you can sign up on our Friends & Family page. We'll send you everything you need to get started.

What's next

We're working toward a public launch in early summer. In the meantime, every spot someone adds makes the map more useful for everyone.

We'll keep posting updates here as things move forward. If you have questions or just want to say hi, reach out.

Thanks for being here early. It means a lot.

Cheers, Daniel
