Our story
Find somewhere worth going. Every time.
We're a small group of developers from Switzerland. We kept running into the same problem: you want to go somewhere new and nobody has a good answer. So we built the thing we were missing.
The idea
It started on a Friday evening.
You're heading out and nobody wants to end up at the same place again. Or it's lunch and you want to sit somewhere different but keep going back to the same spots. Or you're visiting a new city and want to know what locals actually know — not what comes up when you Google it.
Every app we tried gave us the same thing: business listings, star ratings, sponsored results. None of them had the rooftop you find by accident, the meadow outside town, the bench halfway up a trail, the sheltered courtyard where you can eat lunch in peace.
Cranny is for all of that. An evening out, a lunch break, a hike, a quiet moment — even a marriage proposal. If someone thought it was worth pinning, it's probably worth finding.
For places worth sharing. Not places worth advertising.
The app
Built around two ideas.
Spots are places — viewpoints, benches, fire pits, hidden gorges, scenic roads. Traces are what you leave behind when you're actually there: a photo or a 15-second clip, tied to that exact location and that exact moment. You can only trace a spot if you're physically there. That's the whole point.
Discover
Open the map and see spots near you — added by people who actually found them. Filter by category, save the ones you want, and get there when you're ready.
Trace
When you're at a spot, leave a photo or a 15-second clip. Your name stays on that spot. Someone finding it months later will see you were there.
Follow
See traces from people you follow in your feed. Every one is a real place on a real map. Tap, save, go.
The people
Not a company. A few developers with the same problem.
No office, no funding round, no team of twenty. Cranny is a side project built by a small group of developers from Switzerland who got frustrated enough with the problem to actually do something about it.
We design, build, and test in our spare time. Every feature we ship is something we wanted to use ourselves.
Your honest feedback means a lot. And so does your support.
The honest part
We cover all the costs. For now.
Cranny is free to use. That's not just a launch decision — it's a commitment. Every spot someone adds is a place that exists nowhere else on any map, and we take that seriously.
